Recent accusations have emerged against Magid Nauef Láuar, a judge from the Minas Gerais Court of Justice, involving claims of sexual misconduct. A woman who worked in his office in 2009 has come forward, alleging that Láuar engaged in inappropriate behavior, including unwanted touching and attempts to kiss her during her tenure in Betim, Brazil. She recounted a specific incident where he forcibly touched her despite her resistance, leading her to demand to leave the office.
Another former intern, who was also a student of Láuar, reported a similar experience. She described an incident where the judge kissed her without consent during a lunch meeting, which left her feeling violated and led her to quit her internship. These allegations have gained traction following a controversial decision by Láuar in a separate legal case.
The judge’s recent ruling in a case involving a 12-year-old girl and a 35-year-old man has sparked public outrage. The man, who was living with the girl and referred to as her “husband,” was initially convicted of statutory rape. However, Láuar’s application of a legal technique known as “distinguishing” led to the man’s acquittal, citing a consensual relationship recognized by the family. This decision was met with criticism from legal experts and the public.
Amidst the backlash and new allegations, Láuar reversed his decision, reinstating the conviction of the man and the girl’s mother. The National Council of Justice (CNJ) has since suspended Láuar to facilitate an investigation into the claims.
