Recent accusations have emerged against Magid Nauef Láuar, a judge from the Minas Gerais Court of Justice, involving claims of sexual misconduct. These allegations have been brought forward by multiple individuals, including a former employee who recounted an incident from 2009. The woman, who worked in Láuar’s office, described an encounter where the judge allegedly made unwanted advances, including inappropriate touching and attempts to kiss her. She expressed fear of speaking out due to the power dynamics involved.
Another accuser, a former intern and student of Láuar, claimed she was forcibly kissed by him during a lunch meeting when she was 20 years old. The incident left her feeling violated and led her to discontinue her internship. These testimonies are part of a broader pattern of accusations against Láuar, which have gained attention following a controversial legal decision he made.
The spotlight on Láuar intensified after he was involved in a contentious ruling concerning a case of statutory rape. In 2024, a 12-year-old girl in Indianópolis was found living with a 35-year-old man, who was later arrested and initially convicted. However, Láuar’s ruling overturned the conviction, citing a “non-violent romantic relationship,” which sparked backlash from legal experts and the public. This decision was later reversed by Láuar himself, reinstating the original conviction.
The decision to absolve the man and the girl’s mother was met with criticism, leading to the judge’s temporary removal from his position by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) to facilitate ongoing investigations. The Federal Police conducted searches in Láuar’s office as part of the inquiry. Although some of the older allegations have expired under the statute of limitations, newer claims are still under examination.
These developments have prompted discussions about the protection of minors and the responsibilities of those in positions of authority. Legal professionals emphasize the importance of safeguarding vulnerable populations and ensuring that justice is served without bias or undue influence.
