A series of complaints have emerged against dentist Fernanda Borges da Silva, with patients reporting severe complications following cosmetic procedures. These issues range from intense pain and swelling to paralysis and risk of necrosis. Since the first case surfaced in September of the previous year, at least three more have come under investigation.
Several women have shared distressing experiences after undergoing various cosmetic treatments, including facial lifting, cervicoplasty, Botox, bichectomy, and endolaser. One patient, after receiving Botox for jaw clenching, was alarmingly told by the dentist she might be experiencing a stroke and should seek hospital care. Another individual nearly faced severe complications post-bichectomy in 2020.
The complaints have prompted police investigations, with five victims reportedly contacting authorities. The Federal Council of Dentistry is conducting a confidential inquiry into the dentist’s practices. Fernanda Borges, who has a significant social media following, has restricted her account comments amid the controversy.
According to the Regional Council of Dentistry, some of the procedures offered by Borges, such as facial lifting, are not permitted for dentists. Borges’ defense claims she has legal backing for her services, while legal experts suggest affected patients might pursue compensation for damages.
The clinic where Borges operated has been closed since September due to serious sanitary violations. The local health department found the facility lacked the necessary licenses for aesthetic and dental services, leading to its administrative shutdown.
