Several women have reported experiencing severe complications following cosmetic procedures performed by dentist Fernanda Borges da Silva. These issues range from intense pain and swelling to facial paralysis and potential necrosis. The incidents, which include procedures like facelifts, cervicoplasties, and botox injections, have led to multiple investigations.
The first case came to light in September of the previous year, and since then, at least three additional cases have been reported. One patient, after a botox injection in the jaw, was mistakenly told by the dentist that she was having a stroke and needed immediate hospital care. Another patient nearly faced severe complications following a bichectomy in 2020.
Fernanda Borges, who has a significant social media following, has restricted comments on her profile. Despite claiming membership in the Brazilian Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the organization has denied her affiliation, stating she never completed the membership process.
Leslie Calandra Silveira, a retired teacher, and Silvia Maria Cândido, a secretary, both suffered complications after undergoing procedures at Borges’ clinic. Silveira’s experience involved a costly package for facial rejuvenation that resulted in disappointment and regret. Cândido required emergency surgery due to excessive bleeding and swelling, which led to a ten-day stay in intensive care.
The Public Security Secretariat reported that five victims have filed complaints, prompting ongoing investigations. The Federal Council of Dentistry is conducting a confidential inquiry into Borges’ practices. Additionally, the clinic has been administratively closed since September due to severe sanitary violations.
Borges’ defense claims that no clinical or forensic examinations have confirmed the patients’ allegations. They argue that the accusations are attempts to recover costs from unsatisfactory results. Legal experts suggest that due to regulatory restrictions on certain procedures, patients may have strong cases for compensation.
