Poland Suspends Flights Near Ukraine Border After Russian Attacks

In response to recent Russian military actions targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Poland has taken precautionary measures by suspending flights at two airports and deploying its military aircraft. The Polish Armed Forces’ Operational Command reported that these actions were preventative, ensuring the safety of Polish airspace amid the ongoing conflict.

On Saturday, Poland temporarily ceased operations at the Rzeszow and Lublin airports, both located near the Ukrainian border. This decision was made to facilitate military air operations, as Rzeszow serves as a crucial NATO logistics hub for supplying arms to Ukraine. The Polish military confirmed that no airspace violations occurred during this period.

The Russian assault, which targeted Ukraine’s power generation and distribution facilities, prompted emergency power cuts across various Ukrainian regions. Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal condemned the attacks and assured that repair teams were prepared to restore services once safe conditions were established.

During the suspension of flights, NATO aircraft were observed in the region, as reported by FlightRadar24. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration noted that the temporary airport closures were due to Polish state security measures. Similar precautions were taken last month, with Polish authorities emphasizing that these were routine procedures without direct threats to national airspace.
