In the early hours of Monday, February 2, 2026, four buildings collapsed on Avenida Rei Pelé, near Rua Oito de Dezembro, in the Maracanã neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. The incident has left a mother and her 8-year-old daughter trapped under the debris. Rescue teams from the Fire Department and Civil Defense are actively working at the site to locate and assist the victims.
The collapse resulted in injuries to seven individuals. Among them, a 14-year-old girl was the only one transported to a hospital for further medical attention. The remaining victims sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The authorities have cordoned off two of the three lanes on the avenue in the direction of Méier to facilitate the rescue operations.
Rescue operations are being conducted by the Fire Department, with support from the Civil Defense, as they search for the mother and daughter still buried under the rubble. The area remains under close observation to ensure the safety of both the rescue teams and the public.
