Oséias Gomes de Moraes, the CEO of Odonto Excellence, a prominent dental clinic franchise, has been indicted by the Paraná Civil Police for allegedly orchestrating the murder of José Claiton Leal Machado in 2022. The incident took place in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, and is believed to have been motivated by Gomes’ fear of losing control over his business empire.
Oséias Gomes, aged 54, is a notable entrepreneur who founded Odonto Excellence, which boasts over 1,300 branches across Brazil and other countries like Paraguay, Angola, Mexico, and Argentina. The company is headquartered in Ponta Grossa. In addition to his business ventures, Gomes is involved in startup incubation and owns a resort in the same city. He is also an author and speaker on entrepreneurship.
The murder of José Claiton Leal Machado, known as Claus, was executed in an ambush outside his home on April 19, 2022. As he arrived home with his daughter, he was attacked by two men. Despite attempting to defend himself, Machado was overpowered and fatally shot. The police investigation revealed that the crime was meticulously planned, involving intermediaries and financial operators.
The investigation, which spanned four years, involved extensive data analysis and witness testimonies. The police identified financial transactions linking Gomes to the crime, leading to his indictment for qualified homicide. The case has been forwarded to the Paraná Public Prosecutor’s Office for further action. Gomes’ defense claims he is a victim of extortion and denies any involvement in the crime.
Five other individuals have been implicated in the crime. Paulo Santos da Silva, believed to have coordinated the attack, is currently at large. Wallax Alves da Silva and João Victor da Gama Cezário are accused of handling payments related to the murder. Douglas Roberto Ferreira, initially charged, was not prosecuted due to insufficient evidence, while Diones Henrique Rodrigues Raimundo has been convicted and is serving his sentence.
