A 21-year-old employee of a supermarket in Rio Paranaíba, Brazil, has been charged with qualified theft after allegedly exploiting her position to steal high-value items. The investigation by the Civil Police revealed that she used her role to access the internal delivery system, allowing her to divert products such as Easter eggs, shrimp, and other expensive goods to her home. The estimated loss to the supermarket is approximately R$ 26,000.
The investigation began on April 8, following a report from the supermarket about discrepancies in their inventory. The police discovered that the employee was removing items daily, sometimes multiple times a day, by simulating customer orders through WhatsApp. These orders were never recorded or paid for, and the goods were delivered directly to her residence by the supermarket’s delivery service.
Security footage analysis confirmed the frequency of the thefts, leading to the conclusion of the investigation on May 12. The accused admitted to part of the allegations during questioning. The case has been forwarded to the judiciary and the Public Ministry for further action.
The employee had been hired twice by the supermarket, first in the previous year and then re-hired for an additional 65 days. The police have highlighted the strategic position she held, which facilitated her access to the delivery and order systems, enabling the thefts.
