Russian Missile Strike Leaves Kiev Without Heat Amid Trilateral Peace Talks

A Russian missile strike on Kyiv has left approximately 6,000 buildings without heating, as temperatures plummeted to −12 °C on Saturday morning. This attack coincided with a significant trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi, where representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States gathered to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict, which has lasted nearly four years.

According to Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, the strike involved 375 drones and 21 missiles, severely impacting the city’s infrastructure. Ukrainian Foreign Minister accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of orchestrating the attack while peace talks were underway. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the necessity of adhering to international agreements on air defense support.

The historic meeting in Abu Dhabi marks the first time since the war’s inception that the three nations have engaged in direct peace talks. Discussions are focused on the territorial disputes in the Donbas region, with Russia demanding Ukrainian military withdrawal as a condition for peace. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated this stance, emphasizing the importance of Ukrainian forces vacating Donbas.

President Zelensky expressed optimism, stating that peace documents are “90% ready,” following discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump on security guarantees for Ukraine. However, the negotiations face hurdles, with Russia insisting on terms that Ukraine finds unacceptable, particularly regarding territorial concessions.

The U.S. delegation, led by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, is actively participating in the talks. Witkoff hinted at a potential breakthrough, though details remain sparse. Trump has expressed confidence in a resolution, suggesting that the end of the conflict could be imminent.
