The pursuit began as police officers patrolling near the Mangueira Samba School spotted armed individuals in a vehicle. Upon noticing the police, the suspects fired shots, prompting a return of fire from the officers. The ensuing chase saw the suspects’ car collide with at least five other vehicles before it ultimately landed on the tracks.
One suspect was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at Hospital Salgado Filho. Eight people present at the scene sustained injuries. The police have yet to confirm the number of suspects in the vehicle or whether any managed to escape or were apprehended. Items recovered from the scene included two iPhones, a watch, and a replica firearm.
The incident led to the temporary closure of the road until early Monday morning. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to gather information and assess the situation.
